Our hair is formed by groups of hair roots consisting of a number of roots between 1-5. These groups are referred to as follicular units. In a person with healthy hair, the hair roots located in the front are usually in groups of one or two. Groups of three are seen towards the back.
MOREThere are between 180-200 hair roots per square centimeter in a normal scalp. The aim in hair transplantation is to achieve this number. If the hairless area is large, 40-50% less than this number can be implanted. This is because baldness occurs when about 50% of the hair volume is lost. When the loss is more than 50%, baldness can be clearly seen.
